Karachi to Get a New Smart Parking System

Sep 3, 2026

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced that a pilot project for a digital parking system at designated Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) parking lots is nearing completion and is expected to become operational within the next few days.

In a statement on social media, Mayor Wahab clarified that parking fees have already been abolished on all KMC roads and that the new automated system will only apply to designated parking lots.

He said the system is aimed at improving transparency in parking fee collection and protecting citizens from additional or unauthorized charges by contractors.

The automated receipt system will record all parking transactions, helping reduce revenue leakage and preventing the misappropriation of collected fees.

The Smart Parking system will also offer digital ticketing, cashless payment options, real-time updates on parking availability, and enhanced security and monitoring at covered locations.

“This initiative will not only address Karachi’s growing parking demands but also mark a shift towards digital civic infrastructure, a long-term investment in the city’s future,” a KMC spokesperson said.
