Karachi: The inaugral Sri Lanka Premier reaches its end as Uva Next claims enthralling victory over Nagenahira Nagas in a rain entrupted final match. Uva Next led by Thilina Kandamby seals victory by by 19 runs as Duckworth-Lewis comes into play, Uva were ahead on par score after 5.1 overs, after they had hurtled to 63 for 1 in pursuit of 137 from 15 overs.
With this victory, Uva gets Champions League berth scheduled to be played this year from October 9 to 28 in South Africa.
Nagenahira Nagas makes unexpected lazy start having openers like Imran Nazir and Ahmed Shehzad who scored 6 and 18. However, they managed to set a competitive target of 134 in 15 overs with an unbelievable innings from skipper Angelo Mathews who scored an outstanding 73 of just 27 balls hitting four huge sixes, after they were 48 for 3 from 9.1 overs when the first rains came.
In reply, Nagas missed the trick as they looked to take wickets in a rain-plagued final instead of containing overs. Uva played their cards right, going out at the bowlers aggressively. Munaweera’s unbeatable 44 led their team to a much awaited victory making them National Champions.
