Poetry is very important part for kids/children in their early education. It is used in the courses of kids to spread language awareness, critical analysis and creativity among the students. Both the poetry reading and writing helps the children to imagine different things by utilizing their minds in a positive way. Poetry boost the abilities and skills of kids or children and provide them knowledge in an entertaining way. Poetry also helps the children to expand their written and oral vocabularies and spread linguistic and literacy awareness among them.
As the national language of Pakistan is Urdu, children also have different interesting and message containing poetries in their course from which they can learnt and gain a lot. Urdu poetry plays an important part for our kids to get awareness of our national language and to know about popular poets of past. It is also our tradition and culture to teach the kids with Urdu poetry in order to develop their interest in the studies.
Spreading the message of our religion Islam through poetry is also widely used in the Urdu poetry, in the courses of little kids and children to spread the knowledge among them.
In the past, we have many popular and notable Urdu poets who have contributed so much for the development of linguistic skills in the children. Poets like Allama Iqbal, Ismail merthi, Sufi Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum, Qayyum Nazar, Rafiq Ahmad Khan, Talib Hussain Talib, Ghulam Muhiuddin Nazar and many others have written various poems for the children which are also included in their courses. Daily newspapers and weekly or monthly magazines including Naunihaal, Taleem-o-Tarbiat, Mashriq, Khilona and Jugno, also published interesting and message containing Urdu poetries in the past.
In this modern age of science and technology where almost all the things have changes as compared to the past, the trend of Urdu poetry among the little kids and children is also slowing down gradually. Children normally prefer to use their modern toys, video games, internet and iPhones instead of reading stories and learning poetries. The parents have also forgot that they have gained their basic knowledge of Urdu language from the poetries and it is very sad that they have failed to transfer this tradition among the children. It is also the responsibility of teachers to spread the importance of Urdu poetry among the kids in order to provide them knowledge of our national language and to restore the tradition of positive activities.
