Hanna Lake is the most famous tourist place in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan. People from all around surrounding cities visit Quetta’s Hanna Lake making it the most favorite tourist destination. But now you cannot find the lake.
No rainfall for the past several months means the water of the lake has dried up completely. Once a beautiful lake is now a lakebed with cracks and dead fish.
In summer and winter people from the surrounding cities and villages visited the area because of its beauty. During summer they had to take boats to enjoy the beauty of the lake but now there is no need of boats as you can walk over the dry lakebed.
Amjad Rasheed who heads a NGO claims that deforestation has affected the rain cycle. He said once it was the favorite destination of migrating birds from Serbia, the adjacent areas were green because of the water which was also a source of natural livestock in the area but now nothing remains the same.
Siberian birds no more come to Hanna Lake, the grass has dried and livestock have been shifted or died because of thirst. Once a famous tourist destination have now become an empty barren land.
