ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has given some more time to government for the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). During the proceeding of the case concerning the appointment of CEC, the attorney general told to the judiciary that various key personalities were contacted in order to appoint chief election commissioner of Pakistan but everybody said sorry for this.
He said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and the opposition leader Khursheed Shah were out of the country, adding that the appointment of CEC would be made unanimously. The court gave more time for the appointment and said if the appointment of chief election commissioner was not made till 24 November 2014, the appointment of acting chief election commissioner would be cancelled.
It is pertinent to mention here that the chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan has favoured the name of Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid for the appointment of chief election commissioner whereas the appointment is still lingering due to the premier’s visit to foreign countries and the opposition leader Khursheed Shah is also out of the country.
