A new research on red onions reveals that they might be helpful in reducing the growth and risk of cancer which kills million each year.
The research found that red onion cells were effective in killing breast cancer cells and colon cancer cells. This is because onions contain high level of quercetin and anthocyanin.
The research was conducted by University of Guelph and was published in Food Research International. The study was based on laboratory tests in which cancer cells were bombarded with quercetin to observe the reaction.
They found that compounds from red onion were most effective in killing cancer cells, even if the cells were not killed their ability and speed to grow & multiply was severely reduced.
Now it need testing on animals and then human to make sure that this works, but it will be a long process and will take time.
