Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has called for introducing the proportionate representation system of elections in order to get rid of professional plunderers and corrupt rulers. He was talking to the media persons after a meeting of political parties representatives with the Election Commission in Islamabad on Thursday.
Liaqat Baloch appreciated the appointment of an Election Commissioner through consensus and said it was a happy sign. He urged all political parties to pressurize the government for holding elections on time. He said, it was also the responsibility of the government to announce the elections date without delay. The Election Commission, he said, should have complete administrative and financial powers.
Referring to rigging in elections, Liaqat Baloch said that the elections were rigged all over the country especially in Karachi, by pressurizing the polling staff and the use of force in every possible form. He stressed that such practices should be brought to an end. The media should also be consulted to ensure fair, free and transparent elections, he added. Liaqat Baloch also stressed the need for adopting solid measures to control the elections expenditures.
