Karachi: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Syed Munawar Hasan, Secretary General Liaquat Baloch, Sindh JI Ameer Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui, acting Ameer JI Karachi Barjees Ahmed, Secretary Naseem Siddiqui and other JI leaders have strongly condemned the target killing of Hakeem Mahmood Ahmad Barkati. In a statement issued here yesterday, JI leaders demanded of the government to arrest the culprits involved in the murder of Hakeem Barkati immediately and give them exemplary punishment.
They said the murder of Hakeem Mehmood Ahmed Barkati was the continuity of the target killing of Dr Pervez Mehmood. JI leaders further said that the government has failed to restore law and order and to stop target killings in the city. “Thousands of innocent people have been targeted in the city so far, but the government has not yet taken any step in order to ensure safety of the lives of the people”, they added.
It is pertinent to mention here that the terrorists targeted Hakeem Mehmood in his clinic located in F B area. The deceased has four sons and three daughters. The funeral prayer of Hakeem Mehmood Barkati is to be offered today.
It is worth mentioning here that the deceased Hakeem Mehmood Barkati was conferred by Presidential Award in 2001. He was the author of 40 books. He was 87 and a close fellow of Hakeem Muhammad Said.

This was such a barbaric and shameful act. Only pathetic cowards can do this. Our late Barkaati sahib was an asset and awarded Pride of Performance. I knew him very well. He was a down-to-earth man with very gentle and charismatic personality. I married late Barkaati sahib’s grand-daughter only because of Barkaati sahib’s noble family lineage. May Allah keep his soul in eternal piece and harmony and give patience to his family to bear this unbearable loss.
