The beautiful Gorakh Hill Station is the highest plateau in Sindh which in recent years have become a popular tourist location for the people of Sindh and especially Karachi. But despite government promises & announcements Gorakh Hill station lacks the basic facilities of a tourist spot.
In 2010 Government approved funds of Rs. 6 billion for the construction of facilities such as drinking water, chair lifts, hotels, motels, rest houses and maintenance of the road. Gorakh Hill Development Authority was also established for this purpose but after 8 years these facilities and the development work is still incomplete.
The police station which was constructed for security & safety of tourists is without any police officer and the health facility building is still under construction.
Tourists who visited the area complained about the expensive hotels and food. It is said that the stay per night is more expensive than any 5 star hotel. A petition was also filed against the alleged corruption in the development.
The petitioner said that Rs. 6,000/per night is being charged for a room while tent are being given at a cost of Rs. 2,000. One plate of rice costs Rs. 1,500 in the hotel which reflects how things are being managed.
