No Public Holiday has been announced by Federal government for 1st Muharram which means schools, colleges and universities will remain open on the first day of Islamic New Year.
The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee will meet today to sight the moon of Muharram along with Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) the chances for sighting the moon on Monday are very low. But they said it is expected that moon will be sighted tomorrow and Wednesday will be 1st Muharram.
Schools in Sindh have issued notices to student that schools will be closed if provincial government announces holiday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) provincial government did not announce any public holiday for the year 2018 despite the fact than in previous years 1st Muharram was declared a public holiday to observe the death of second Caliph Hazrat Umar (Ra).
Many expected that after making federal government PTI will announce it a public holiday just like they did in KPK but it seems that this year no holiday will be announced in even KPK.
9th and 10th Muharram, the days of Ashura will be public holidays in Pakistan with all educational institutes and offices remaining closed.
Dubai has also announced 13th September as a public holiday to mark the beginning of Islamic Year 1440. A notification was issued by the Dubai government department and United Arab Emirates (UAE) cabinet to announce 13th September as a holiday.
In UAE 1st Muharram will be on Tuesday but the public holiday has been moved to 13th Sept (Thursday). As per their policy if any holiday is between two working days it will be moved to the end or start of the week.
