Karachi: Jamaat-e Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Muhammad Hussain Mehanti visited the office of the Provincial Chief Election Commissioner and called on the Chief Election Commissioner Sono Khan Baloch. He discussed with him about irregularities and bogus entries in voters’ lists. On the occasion, JI District West Ameer Raja Arif Sultan was also present.
Mehanti told the Chief Election Commissioner that holding of General Elections in the province on the basis of present voters’ lists that were a pack of flaws and irregularities that were deliberately inserted at the behest of a particular political party so as to facilitate that political party to rig the polls easily.
He said that the voters were in a state of despondency over non-resolution of the irregularities and flaws in the voters’ lists. He said that Statistics Department was assigned to complete the information and furnish the compiled data to the NADRA but the task was still not complete. JI had already approached the Election Commission with complaints on those identified issues but to no avail.
Therefore, JI believed that the dream of free and fair and transparent elections would never come true due to holding the election on the basis of the flawed voters’ lists. The Chief Election Commissioner assured JI Chief that the irregularities in the voters’ lists would soon be corrected and measures would be taken to improve the display of the voters’ lists.
