Director General ISPR Major General Athar Abbas has said that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has contacts with Haqqani network but it does not mean that Pakistan Army supports the network, adding that the allegations of Admiral Mike Mullen involving Pakistan in Kabul attacks has shocked Pakistan
He said that the unilateral US operation inside Pakistan would result in severe consequences, adding that it would further enhance the anti-America sentiments in the Pakistani people.
In an interview with US TV channel CNN the Director General ISPR said that maintaining ties with rival groups was necessary for intelligence agencies, adding that intelligences agencies maintain their relations with terrorists and opposition groups.
He said that Pakistan is not the only country, which has contacts with Haqqani network, he said, adding; “We have solid information that several countries have contacts with the group. He said having contacts with any group just for the sake of peace was entirely different from supporting anyone.
He said that the allegation of Admiral Mike Mullen of involving Pakistan in the attack on US embassy in Kabul is a critical blow, adding that media diplomacy would not give any benefit to Pakistan and US.
He said that US cannot share intelligence regarding Haqqani group, adding that safe havens of Haqqani network were in Nuristan and Kunar provinces of Afghanistan
He added that any unilateral US operation inside Pakistan would provoke severe anti-America sentiments, adding that such attacks would be known as efforts of US to put the Pakistani government and army on the wall.
He said that Pakistani army closed all mobile towers inside Pakistani boundaries, so that the terrorists could not communicate with each other, adding that US cannot closed down the mobile towers inside Afghanistan and the terrorists got help of these towers to contact each other. (SANA)
