Biography:

Chief Justice Yayha Afridi is a renowned Pakistani jurist who has made significant contributions to the country’s judicial system. Born on January 23, 1965, in Dera Ismail Khan, Justice Afridi belongs to the Adam Khel tribe of Kohat.

Early Education and Career:

Justice Afridi received his early education from Aitchison College, Lahore, and graduated from Government College Lahore. He later earned a master’s degree in Economics from Punjab University and an LLM from Cambridge University through a Commonwealth Scholarship.

Judicial Career:

Justice Afridi began his law career in 1990 and became an advocate of the Supreme Court in 2004. He served as Assistant Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was appointed Additional Judge of the Peshawar High Court in 2010. In 2016, he became Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court and was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court in 2018.

Notable Cases:

Justice Afridi has heard several landmark cases, including challenging the 2007 emergency in the Supreme Court. He also headed a three-member bench in the special court constituted under Article 6 to try Pervez Musharraf.
