Getting proper sleep is very important for a healthy life but now a new study has revealed that brain starts eating itself shrinking.
The study was based on the affect of sleep deprivation on mice. The research team observed mice which were woken up, were forced to be awake for extra hours daily and some were even deprived of sleep for up to 5 days.
It was observed that microglial cell which destroys old and worn out cells starts destroying and eating other cells after sleep deprivation. Such activities have been also observed in Alzheimer patients but it was the first time that it was observed after lack of sleep.
The study was published in Journal of Neuroscience and was based on research and study by the team of Michele Bellesi in Marche Polytechnic University, Italy.
