Atheists claim that they are the most open minded & tolerant group in the world who accept differences unlike the followers of different religion such as Christians, Muslims & Buddhists. But a new study by Catholic University of Louvain reveals something different.
According to the study religious people are more tolerant about different viewpoints than atheists. This claim is made after observation of 788 people in France, UK & Spain. The people involved in the research consisted of 445 atheists, 255 Christians & 37 people from other religions.
Filip Uzarevic, the co-author of the paper said “religious people seem to better perceive and integrate diverging perspectives”.
He said that in public discourse people from both groups show intolerance but it is the religious people who are labeled as close-minded.
The reason behind it is the presumption that being atheist means to be open-minded, which may not be the true as the study suggest.
