Chairman Public Account Committee (PAC) of National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told the committee that army initiated action against the three ex-generals of army in the NLC case, adding that he appreciates the cooperation of Chief of Army Staff General Parvez Kayani; meanwhile he cleared that APC has the power to look after all the institutions of parliament regarding accountability. The meeting of PAC held on Friday at parliament chaired by Chairman PAC Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. He said that action against the responsible of NLC case would increase the morale of army; meanwhile he also gave hint of not resigning the chairmanship of PAC.
Members of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on behalf of party and government ensured full cooperation to the Chairman PAC, adding the PAC gave approval of seven reports of sub-committee and implementation monitoring committee to present in the national assembly.
During the meeting Federal Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada who is also member of PAC, said that PAC audit the accounts of all institutions, adding the Supreme Court also show its accounts to the PAC. Member of PPP Nadeem Afzal Gondal said that the circle of verification of audit accounts should be enlarged, adding that we made speeches for ten years against former president Pervez Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz but no audit para against them was found.
Chairman appreciated the services of former Auditor General Tanveer Ali Agha and said that he fully cooperated with the PAC. He also appreciated the role of General Kayani regarding NLC case and said that if army would limit itself according to the constitutional powers to defend the boundaries of the country, then the whole nation would support army, adding that army is also answerable before PAC against any corruption.
Zahid Hamid, Yasmin Rehman, Wasim Akhtar, Noor Alam Khan, Nadeem Afzal Gondal, Rukhsana Bungush, Asia Nasir, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah and others show confidence on Chairman APC and requested him, if he has any intention of resignation he should review about this.
Nadeem Afzal said that government cannot influence the working of PAC and PPP government is satisfied that the appointment of Chairman PAC was made according to the Charter of Democracy (CoD) signed by late Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that we want to review the audit paras of Pervez Musharraf and Shukat Aziz, adding that but there is not direct audit paras pointed out against them. New Auditor General Akhter Buland Rana showed confidence on the PAC committee and ensured the full cooperation of his institution with PAC. (SANA)
