ISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for Power and Water Khawaja Asif has said that the aim of the sit-ins was to stop cheap electricity, adding that the country had to face the loss of billions of dollars as the sit-ins wanted to harm the government politically. He said that a lobby tried to worsen the relations between Pakistan and China, adding that such a circumstance was created that Chinese president did not visit Pakistan.
During a news conference in Islamabad, Khawaja Asif said that NEPRA had rejected a plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf concerning the Tariff owing to the statistics which were presented wrongly. He said that the government subsidized 100 per cent on electricity generated from fuel. He further said that the plan of generating 10 thousands megawatt electricity was tried to stop by the sit-ins.
Khawaja Asif said that most power plants were built in India locally whereas Pakistan had to order to carry the power plants from foreign countries. He added that the government did not take any loan; the companies would pay their loans themselves.
He rejected saying that this was an allegation that those companies were fake but they were set up by us. He said when the agreements were signed; the companies would be presented before the media.
