The Earth Hour was observed on 31st March 2012 from 8:30 PM PST (Pakistan Standard Time) to 9:30 PM PST. The Earth Hour 2012 symbolise the need to conserve energy and mitigate the effect of global warming and climate change so as to make this Earth a safer place for our future generations.
According to Environment department of Government of Sindh one can observe Earth Hour by
- Switching off extra light from 8:30 PM PST to 9:30 PM PST
- Discussing Earth Hour 2012 with your families, friends and colleagues
- Organising Earth Hour 2012 events in local neighbourhoods
One can conserve energy by
- Early closure of marriage halls
- Setting your AC’s thermostat between 24C to26C
- Replacing old light bulbs with Energy savers and LED bulbs
- Avoiding keeping refrigerator and deep freezer door open for long periods
- Turning off your home and office equipment when not in use
- Painting your home in light colours
- Unplugging all electrical appliances, instead of leaving them in standby mode
The main earth hour ceremony was held at Quaid-e-Azam’s Mazar on 31st March, 2012 from 8:30 PM PST to 9:30 PM PST. The Minister for Environment Mr. Sheikh Muhammad Afzal and the Earth Hour Ambassadors were present at the occasion.
