A man is jailed for 35 years in prison just because he wrote something against the King & royal family of Thailand. It is one of the longest punishment given to anyone for posting something on social media.
In reality the man ‘Wichai’ received a punishment of 70 years but it was made half because he confessed to the crime. He was charged for 10 counts and on each he received 7 years imprisonment. The decision was made in a military court and media was not allowed to enter the court room.
The new King Maha Vajiralongkorn came into power after his father & last king died in 2016. After his coming the prosecution has increased and new draconian laws are being implemented.
United Nations have previously stated that such laws and their use may fall under crimes against humanity.
