The demand of hand mobile sets increased during some last months in the country as the telecommunication sector imports surged by 36 percent to Rs 16.492 billion in the first two months (July-Augusts) of the current fiscal year as against the same period of the last fiscal year.
According to the provisional figures of the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the country paid Rs 9.092 billion for the imports of mobile phone sets during the current first months of current fiscal year which is 52 percent higher from the same period of the last fiscal year. Pakistan also paid Rs 7.400 billion for the imports of others apparatus during the current first months of current fiscal year which is 20 percent higher as against the same period of the last fiscal year.
The imports surged by 45 percent to Rs 7.973 billion in August 2011 as against the same month of last year. During the period, the imports of hand mobile sets surged by 83 percent to Rs 4.855billion and others apparatus surged by 10 percent to Rs 3.118 billion, the data of FBS revealed.
On the other hands, Pakistan, which has seen a boom in its promising telecom sector and information technology services in recent years, recorded around 46.2 percent growth of subscribers and is placed fourth on the ranking list with Serbia on the top. Globally, only Thailand and Belarus had greater percentage expansion than Pakistan, apart from top-rated Serbia during the period. Pakistan’s digital growth prospects have begun to look brighter lately. (SANA)
