Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is clotting of blood in deep circulation blood vessels, usually in the veins in legs. It is very dangerous because it may cause death.
The blood clot is usually formed when prolonged sitting and lying allows blood to concentrate in extremities. Sitting for more than 4 hours increases the risk of blood clotting that’s why it is recommended take 5 minutes break during long session for stretching your legs and walking.
The real danger is that the clot may break and travel to lungs preventing circulation resulting in death, this is known as Pulmonary Embolism.
There are many symptoms through which you may know that you have DVT such as:
Swelling of one leg can be an indication of DVT.
- Increased Redness is also a symptom of blood clotting.
- Some patients also have pain in the leg after clotting.
- Warmth may also be an indication of the problem.
- Problem in walking or standing is also seen in many patients.
- Tenderness is also a symptom.
