In Pakistan’s rural areas most of the marriages are arranged by parents, in many cases without the consent of the child. Many people question that if the right of deciding marriage is in parents control then why the bride and groom are asked during the Nikah to proclaim ‘Qabool hai’?
Sheikh Saalih was also questioned about this and he said that the consent of the bride and groom is necessary and the parents have no right to force them to accept the marriage.
But sheikh also explained that if the marriage proposal is not faulty, and the parents have chosen the right person with good background and is righteous then the son or daughter should not reject the proposal without any reason.
He also said that if the bride and groom then that such marriage will result in divorce then they should not accept the marriage. Sheikh Ibn Taymiyah said:
“The parents do not have the right to force their child to marry someone whom he does not want, and if he refuses he is not being disobedient towards them, as is the case when he does not eat what he does not want.”
