Rawalpindi: The sister of chief suspect, Ataullah Khan, who is said to be the mastermind behind the attack on Malala Yousafzai has apologized to the 15 year old girl, receiving medical treatment in UK, for the incident, reported CNN on Tuesday.
The sister of alleged culprit, Rehana Haleem, gave an interview to CNN, where she said:
“Please convey a message to Malala, that I apologise for what my brother did to her.”
However, Haleem did not categorically state that that Khan had actually carried out the attack, but she said that ‘the incident in result has brought shame on our family. We have lost everything after what he did.”
Haleem said that what Khan allegedly did was “intolerable” and that “Malala is just like my sister,’ adding that “I’d like to express my concern for Malala on behalf of my whole family; I hope she recovers soon and returns to a happy and normal life as soon as possible. I hope Malala doesn’t consider me or my family as enemies. I don’t consider Atta Ullah my brother anymore.”
Haleem told how the security personnel raid her house in order to trace his brother and searched the entire house, seizing their documents and pictures.
She further said that she was shifted to a house near their house. The house she along with her husband, was moved to was equipped with bars on the doors.
“I was pregnant and sick,” said Haleem. “Then, finally, after a day or two, they released me and my husband and told me they were letting me go only because I was sick.”
