Islamabad: Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of rental power projects case till November 14. A two member bench composed of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Khilji Arif Hssain heard the suo moto notice with coupled petitions on Friday. During the hearing, Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry inquired how the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had determined tariff without inspecting the site and the machinery, adding that if anyone takes a house on rent he enquires many things but here were billions of rupees project and no one bother to inspet any thing.
NEPRA’s lawyer Najam ul Hasan Kazmi said NEPRA’s opinion should have been taken in connection with agreements of rental power plants and subsequent payments. He said that the government could have saved a huge amount if it had consulted the NEPRA. Without approval of the NEPRA, troika agreement is a violation of rules, Kazmi said.
He said that tariff is fixed in the lights of facts and figures, and other documents. The Chief Justice said rules were amended through cabinet and ECC to increase advance money.
