Australia: A young pregnant Muslim lady lost her accountancy job for observing hijab in the workplace. Sources learn the news, after the junior accountant filed application in Fair Work Australia against the denial of her religious practice. Mariam El Hassan is a junior accountant at Warrawong accountancy firm.
Mariam had notified her manager about her willingness to observe hijab from the month of June. Her manager declined her to carry out the practice until the tax season. Mariam agreed to her manager. But when she again talked about the matter in October, the accountant then met several oppositions from the manager who asked the lady not to come to the workplace ‘that way’. After that, she has had been asked not to come to the workplace and eventually was forced to resign otherwise.
Ms Donnelly, lawyer of Master Tax Service and Finance said that the firm had extended support and freedom to the young woman for her religious practices. Since, she is responsible to carry out deals with the clients; hence she was deferred for her this decision.
However, she further said that by November 28, replies for the complaint registered would be made by the company.
Mariam said that she feels proud to put scarf. She has served the company for past 5 years. Michelle Walsh, the lawyer demanded payment clearance of her client for the last two weeks and the annual leave.
