Islamabad: Prime Misnietr Nawaz Sharif has rejected the summary moved by Oil and Gas Development Authority (OGRA) for increasing prices of the petroleum products. OGRA had suggested of increasing the petroleum price rates by Rs 3.60 per liter. While Ogra has suggested increase in the petroleum items as Rs 2.91 for petrol, Rs. 2.63 for high speed diesel, Rs. 1.80 for light oil diesel and Rs. 1.38 for kerosene oil.
The political analysts see the price hikes to add to ill resentment of the people against the government. Increase in petrol rates by Rs. 2.91, will result in price hike as Rs.3. 60 liter in total. Last year, the oil import cost $ 14 billion. If the price hike is implemented, it will result in surge of $ 15 billion.
It is likely; the government would not make the price plans effective. The incompetent regime is open to criticisms due to its ineffective policies. Added “inflation” would result further to damage to the reputation of the Nawaz government.
