What is the Pink Eye Infection?
Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, is an inflammation of the clear membrane covering the eyelid and eyeball called the conjunctiva. When blood vessels in the conjunctiva become swollen and irritated, they become more noticeable, leading to a reddish or pinkish appearance in the whites of the eyes. A viral infection most commonly triggers pink eye but can also result from bacterial or allergic reactions.
