In Pakistan many families force their daughters into marriage without their consent, in some cases daughters are threatened with consequences if they don’t agree with the marriage. A person asked the darul iftah of Jamia Binoria whether such marriage is valid and considered a legal marriage according to Islam.
[junkie-alert style=”green”] The mufti replied that marriage is a legal contract between male and female and Islam gives both the right to accept or reject it. [/junkie-alert]
Once they have accepted the proposal in a Nikah ceremony the Nikah is valid, though pressurizing your daughter or son into marriage is unislamic and is disliked but it doesn’t voids the contract because the contract is based on the acceptance from the girl.
Mufti emphasized that parents should take daughters consent because it is the matter of their life and also said that children should consider the choice and opinion of their parents.
