Each year millions visit the holy cities of Makkah and Madina for pilgrimage, Makkah being the city which has the Kaaba and Madina being the city where Prophet (Pbuh) lived and established the Islamic State.
To maintain the cleanness without disturbing the pilgrimage is a major task for the administration which tries to take minimum time in cleaning the 388,375 square meters area of Masjid al Haram.
If we combine Safa, Marwa, the surrounding area then the total space is 700,000 square meters which is cleaned daily. They take less than one hour to clean the whole area while pilgrimages are performing their duties.

A team of 2,500 people with especially designed vehicles and cleaners complete their task smoothly, they take only 20 minutes to clean the area around Kaaba which is 17,540 square meters. They also clean 17,000 rugs in the mosque daily and the 14,000 washrooms are also cleaned four times a day.
