LUMS recently invited Mama Qadeer for talks titled as ‘Un-silencing Balochistan’ on 8th April 2015. But the Lahore University of Management Sciences had to cancel the talks following unconfirmed reports about pressure being exerted from the government. Abdul Qadeer, also known as Mama Qadeer, is a founder of a group working for information on people who have disappeared during the long term conflict between the government and the Baloch separatist movements.
The talks were also supposed to include activist, Mohammad Ali Talpur, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan director I A Rehman, Secretary General Voice of Baloch Missing Persons (VMPB) Farzana Majeed, Quaid-e-Azam University professor Aasim Sajjad and human rights activist Sajjad Changezi. The university cancelled the event a few hours before the conference. LUMS stance on giving Mama Qadeer and other Balochistan activist a chance to express their side of the story was criticized by many, while only a few were willing to have Mama Qadeer a say in this controversial matter.
