It is that time of the year again when you start looking at prospective buys to upgrade your tech. With grand sales, such as Black Friday around the corner, now may be as good a time as any to decide which laptop you want to buy.
There are a number of laptop manufacturers in the market who offer different prices and specifications to cater to the unique demands of a variety of customers. However, two brands stand out in this regard. Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP) are household names when it comes to laptops. Not only do they offer laptops that perform excellently – their durability and design is another major selling factor.
Design
When it comes to the overall design and look of the laptops; HP is certainly more sleek and polished. Sleek is a term often overused when it comes to gadget and devices but it does hold true for most HP laptops. Envy 4 and Envy 14 give off a classy look while being portable and lightweight. Dell laptops, on the other hand, are more basic in appearance and can be bulky at times. However, they are available in a wider variety of colors and designs as compared to their HP counterparts.
Specifications and Hardware
The hard disk capacity for both the brands can go up to 1TB. With the RAM ranging from 2GB to 6GB and Intel i3, i5 or i7 processors under the hood, you can expect brilliant performance from any machines from these two brands. The components are manufactured by third-party contractors for both so there is not much to be said about them.
For being carried around and for business use, the Dell Latitude E6430 and HP Elite Book 8460P go head to head. HP 17 Envy and Dell Inspiron 17R cater to the needs of those who want a high-performance media laptop. For your gaming requirements, Dell’s Alienware M17 xR4 is the one.
Price
Dell is a relatively cheaper brand as compared to HP. This means that you will be able to get more or less the same specs for a lesser price. However, performance and the tiniest details matter for those who are more tech-savvy and are looking to get the best laptops for their money. Prices will rise as the specifications improve so it is really up to the customer as to what kind of a machine they want and what purpose they want it to serve.
Verdict
Like most other head-to-head comparisons of different brands in the tech world, it ultimately comes down to personal preference. While Dell offers a better customer service that it makes a good choice along with its warranty; it also has a designated gaming series Alienware that can be termed as the market leader in its category. HP, however, provides you with excellent performance and a more elegant look with its laptops.
