Sindh Building Control Authority revealed that more than 350 buildings are in a dangerous condition. They revealed that these buildings are not suitable for residence but yet are being used for residence which is risking their lives.
These buildings are mostly situated in the old areas of Saddar and other old areas of Jamshed Town. But it is being said that SBCA only evaluated the buildings and structures from colonial era while other areas also have weak structures. During rains such structure causes deaths each year, especially during monsoon.
There are thousands of weak & dangerous structures in other parts of the city.
In 2014 students of NED carried out a research in affiliation with Japanese firm which revealed that 87% of building in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town will be destroyed if any earthquake hits the city. But it seems that government authorities ignored the revelation.
