Jamia Binoria received a question asking whether the ruling of slavery still exists to which the mufti responded yes the Shariah didn’t prohibit slavery but we have international agreements which cannot be violated. So we cannot treat the prisoners of other country as slaves unless they violate the law and make our citizens slave.
It should be noted that human history is full of conflicts and wars where one nation attacked another to control the land and extend its border. They arrested men, women and children who become slaves and were later sold in markets as a commodity with no rights and dignity.
[junkie-alert style=”green”] When Islam was revealed it accepted the rights of the slaves and considered them as human being. Islam didn’t prohibited slavery but gave them their due rights. During Islamic history slaves become Ministers, Teachers, Scientists, Military Chief and on many occasions they became the ultimate ruler of many dynasties. [/junkie-alert]
Ottoman Caliphate was the first great power which prohibited slavery without any conditions, it also invited other European powers such as Britain, Germany & France but they declined to prohibit slavery as their colonial imperialism was based on slavery and injustice.
On the other hand European power treated African slaves worse than animals. Women were raped, children were used to catch crocodiles, men were forced to work without any food, water and rest.
It is estimated that at least 4 million Africans slaves died during their transfer within African continent, another 3 million died during transportation to USA by sea.
