During the month of Ramazan Muslims are obliged to fast from sun rise till sunset during which they abstain themselves from eating or drinking anything. But what are the things that break the fast (roza)?
Dr. Zakir Naik explains that there are many things which breaks the fast and all are related to either something taken in the body or something excreted from the body.
He then mentions some things that break our fast such as:
1) Eating & Drinking food
2) Anything that falls under eating & drinking
3) Taking medicines
4) Kidney Dialysis or similar medical procedures
5) Intercourse with your husband/wife.
6) Menstruation
7) Deliberate vomit
8) Letting blood out from your body through cupping or donating blood.
These things break the fast that’s why should be avoided and if someone deliberately breaks his fast either through eating or through intercourse then still he should abstain from eating until the sunset and then should make it up later.
Breaking fast will also result in penalty which is called kaffarah and is mentioned in many ahadith by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
