In western world 1st April is celebrated as April Fools’ Day, on this day people through jokes, lies and hoaxes to have fun with their friends, colleagues and relatives but what is the Islamic opinion on April Fools Day?
The first question which should arise in our mind is why would we commemorate this day? As Muslims we should follow the trend whatever it is or should we establish a better benchmark for celebrating days?
Many renowned scholars such as Maulana Ilyas Qadri, Mufti Tariq Masood, Muhammad Raza Saqib Mustafai and Sheikh Muhammad Saalih Munajjid also advised Muslims to restrain themselves from such days.
Scholars claim that the day is based on deception, lies and hoaxes which are not allowed in Islam. In many ahadith Prophet (PBUH) asked Muslims to speak truth and never lie, not even for jokes.
In a narration Prophet (PBUH) said:
“Woe to the one who speaks and tells a lie in order to make the people laugh at it. Woe to him. Then again, woe to him.” (al-Tirmidhi)
In another narration Prophet (PBUH) said:
“A man may say something to make his companions laugh, and he will fall into Hell as far as the Pleiades because of it.” (Narrated by Ahmad). “
It should be remembered that jokes which is based on lies and preoccupies one from the remembrance of Allah is prohibited, other than that there isn’t any restriction on joking or having fun with your friends and family members.
