PM’s National Laptop Scheme is a part of Prime Minister Youth program which was started in 2013 for five years. The motive of the scheme is to enhance the quality education and support students in their education by providing laptop in this technology evolving era.
Scheme completed its first laptop distribution phase in 2014 by distributing 100,000 laptops to young and bright students in public sector Higher education institute in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Youth Training Scheme registration has also started.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) is in charge of distributing, developing criteria, mechanism and modalities of laptops under the laptop scheme criteria. This scheme was announced in 2013 budget speech in August 2013. The second phase was launched for 2015 with another 100,000 laptops ready to distribute among deserving students according to eligible criteria.

Laptops are enabled with licensed/ genuine windows 8.1 OS, Microsoft office 365 application software, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS),3G EVO device and access to HEC National Digital Library.

Some Misconception about the scheme is that this scheme is for needy students so that’s not true the scheme motive is to provide laptop to bright and good rankers as a reward and that will help them in their further education.
1. Students studying in public sector universities and are enrolled in PHD/MS/MPhil or equivalent to 18 years program 4 or 5 years Bachelor’s, 1 or 2 years Masters.
2. Students studding as distant Lerner in Virtual university of Pakistan and Allama Iqbal Open University.
3. Students from government degree or postgraduate colleges of federal capital and federal administrated tribal areas.
4. Any students who have previously have received laptop from any of the scheme by federal or provincial government will not be eligible for this scheme.
