Potatoes are the fourth most consumed crop in the world after wheat, rice and corn. In many countries it tops the rank of vegetables such as United States. Though there are many health benefits of potatoes but there can be some hygienic problems with eating potatoes.
Potatoes are among high glycemic index which means it can increase your blood sugar. So eating potatoes may result in misbalancing your blood sugar. To counter this you should eat potatoes with their peel and along with food with low glycemic index such as low fat milk.
Another problem with potatoes is it increases the hunger and results in increasing your weight. Potatoes are usually prepared and served with high fat and calories products such as cheese, butter and sour cream which all contribute in increasing weight.
In June 2011 a report was published after 120,877 non-obese people were observed from 1986 to 2006. On average 1.5 Kg was increase mainly because of Potatoes.
