The Garage School is an establishment of a brave courageous woman, who is herself a living example of endurance, struggle and hard work. Shabina Mustafa started the garage school in the small garage of her apartment following the dreams of her husband, who went missing one year after her marriage. Shabina was just 21 then. But with the continuous support of her mother, she was able to overcome all the hurdles and give an adequate education to her son, who was just 2 months old when her husband went missing.
Shabina aims at giving the underprivileged children all the requirements of a basic education. She works on the five basic principles in educating these children, taur (training), tareeqa (approach), tarbiyat (grooming), taleem (education), and tareeqi (progress). TGS is formally registered as a project under the Safi Benevolent Trust (SBT). In the beginning of 2007, TGS opened a branch in Neelum colony where a large number of the target population resides. There are thousands of children in this colony who are in need of proper education that TGS tries its best to fulfil.
Microsoft Devices Pakistan made a donation of 10 fully functional PCs to The Garage School (TGS). The school, which currently enrolls more than 400 under-privileged students, will now be able to provide free quality IT education and impart modern tutoring to its students. The computers are fully equipped with the latest software and hardware components which will help the students learn and hone their computer skills on the most recent technology.
The TGS is working excellently to groom its children. It is not just imparting education but is also counseling the children and their parents so that they are given the confidence to face the challenges and move ahead in their lives. The children are taught social values and are groomed as complete individuals of the society.
