Australia’s third largest export Industry is its education export, but there is a dark side of Australia’s Education Industry. Huge numbers of rapes and sexual assaults on universities is effecting its reputation.
Around 500,000 international students are currently enrolled in Australian institutes who are at risk of becoming victim of predators who are none other than their fellow class & university mates.
[junkie-alert style=”green”] Australian Human Rights Commission surveyed more than 30,000 students in Australian campuses and issued a report which revealed the severe problem. According to the report almost 51% students faced sexual assaults & rape in 2015-2016. [/junkie-alert]
7,000 international students, 30 each day were assaulted in Australia. One of the rape victims Leu told media that she thought to report the rape but other international students said it was a bad idea.
Kendra Murphy reported her rape to St Andrew’s College – they conducted an internal investigation and found that there ‘wasn’t enough evidence’. Kendra: “their primary objective is protecting the institution that has existed for 150 years”. #60mins #TheRedZone

She revealed how students didn’t trust the Australian legal system and feared that the police might support the rapist, who was a Australian citizen.
According to Human Rights 94% of students never report the incident, even when they do the action taken by University management is not satisfactory.
For example in one case the harasser was given warning while in another case the student was fined just $40.
Harassment and drinking have become the biggest problem among Australian universities, it is because of the high numbers of victims that the universities were forced to start on campus and online consent training.
The harassment doesn’t end after graduation, according to Human Rights commission it’s also a widespread problem even in workplace.
