RFA reported that Chinese authorities in Korla city are confiscating Quran and prayer mats from muslim citizens of the city to counter extremism.
It is being said that the campaign was started last year after which thousands of prayer mats and thousands of copies of Quran were collected from houses of Uyghur Muslims.
The method adopted by local authorities is being considered systematic religious oppression in which meetings were held in different villages and people were warned to submit their copies of Quran and prayer mats, in failure of fulfilling this they were threatened from serious consequences.
In Qara Yulghun village 400 books including Quran and 250 prayer mats were collected. Overall more than 5,000 mats were confiscated in Saybagh campaign.
Chinese government dismissed these as rumors but Uyghur groups outside Chinese confirmed that such campaigns are being carried out in different parts of Xinjiang from many months.
