A simple blood test after critical surgery and operation will help doctors to know which patient is suffering more and needs more care & attention, a new study claims.
Troponin is a protein which is found in our blood, high level of Troponin means that there is inflammation or internal injury which the body is trying to cope with. By blood test of patients after initial operation doctors can know whether the person is recovering or not.
The increase level of this protein is usually found in blood of patients suffering from heart strokes, and kidney failure. Now with the help of a simple test the condition of patient can be predicted.
“’Now we need to find out why troponin levels are raised in some patients before surgery, and why these patients are more likely to die, in order to identify treatments that could reduce the risk of death following non-cardiac surgery.’ Said Dr Matthew Jackson who led the research. He is also serves in The James Cook University Hospital.
