Dhaka: The declared Hizb-ut-Tahrir rally in Bangladesh took place in Muktangon, Dhaka, on Friday 27th Dec after Jumu’a. Attended by about 2500 people, protesters were fired upon by police & security forces of the secular regime. Ten protestors hit and injured; around forty arrested as well.
The organization spokes-person in Australia said that Bangladeshi media downplaying numbers and spreading false news in service of the regime that the police response was in reaction to protesters throwing “bombs” and cocktails.
Processions were coming from Shegun Baghicha, Dainik Bangla, Bijoynagar, Dhaka University’s Curzon Hall gate and elsewhere, leading to Muktangon.
Some shots of the multiple processions leading to the intended venue, repressed violently by police, and some shots of police violence and arrests.
Spokes-person told that this rally was the second phase of a campaign aiming at addressing the dire and quickly deteriorating situation in Bangladesh by directing the people away from the prevailing political system and its two sides i.e. Awami league and the BNP towards radical change based on Islam. The first phase involved mass contact with the people through various styles and means and according to spokes-person of the organization gained an overwhelming positive response.
