In recent fighting between ISIS and US led Iraqi forces and militia the historical mosque of Mosul the Great Nuri Mosque was destroyed. ISIS blamed US for bombing the mosque while US & Iraq blamed ISIS for detonating the mosque.
Grand Al-Nuri Mosque is a 900 year old mosque in the city of Mosul which is famous and known because of its leaning minaret built by famous Muslim hero Nur uddin Zingi in 1172, he was the ruler of Syrian province which included Mosul at that time.
This is not the first time that historical monument have been destroyed in a war, in the battle of Aleppo the Syrian forces destroyed the Umayyad Mosque of Aleppo. The minaret of the Great Mosque of Aleppo was around 1000 years old when it was demolished.
The Syrian conflict started in 2011 after protests demanding the downfall of Syrian Regime was targeted by Syrian forces, soon the protests become a military fight against the Syrian regime.
