Islamabad: Supreme Court cancels the membership of MNA Shehnaz Sheikh from Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) On Wednesday. The action was taken against her because she allegedly holds the Australian citizenship. The decision was taken in the Supreme Court when Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry headed a three-judge bench in the apex court. The hearing was against the lawmakers who possess dual nationality.
In the hearing of the respective case, no one appeared to represent Shehnaz Shiekh who also held the position of Minister Of State for Health in the previous government. This points the lack of interest of the alleged MNA in the case. The Chief Justice added that notification is issued to secretary National Assembly in this regard.
The Chief Justice also directed the interior minister Rehman Malik to provide the list of parliamentarians with dual nationality to the Supreme Court. Malik assured the court that he will provide all possible assistance to the court in the dual nationality case of parliamentarians.
