Senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have told the sub-committee of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Interior that over 7,000 Pakistanis was detained in different countries.
In April 2004, The National Assembly was told that 1,048 Pakistanis were detained in different countries like USA, England, Afghanistan etc.
It was told that many Pakistanis were in Saudi Arabian prisons even after completion of their sentences.
It was informed that 211 Pakistanis were languishing in Chinese jails. 159 cases had been decided while 52 were pending in courts. Many Pakistanis had been arrested in China on the charges of drug smuggling.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs told that a special cell had been set up in the Foreign Office to oversee the cases of Pakistanis detained in different countries.
