According to annual plan which is released with 2011-12 Budget, Pakistan’s labour force is estimated at 58.4 million (45.1 million or 77 % males and 13.3 million or 23 % females). 3.2 million People are jobless.
The youth population is around 36.2 million and 16.2 million of them are in the category of labour force. Only 14.9 million youths are employed while the remaining 1.3 million or 8.4 per cent are jobless.
Annual plan also tells that the females are 48.6 per cent of the population, but only 13.3 million or 23 % of them are in the labour force.
Only 12 million females are employed as compared to 42.2 million males. As many as 1.2 million women are jobless.
Of the employed workforce, 45 % are engaged in the agriculture sector, 13.2 % in manufacturing, 6.7 % in construction, 15.2 % in wholesale and retail trade, 5.2 % in transport/storage and communication and 11.2 % in community and social services.
