Masjid Al-Aqsa is the third holiest site for muslims in the world but unfortunately it is under Israeli occupation from past 50 years. Despite being the third holiest site muslims are unable to travel to the occupied holy mosque and they know very few things about the holy mosque.
- Masjid Al Aqsa is not only the mosque which is called Qibly Mosque rather the whole compound which is also called Haram Al-Sharif is part of the mosque.
- When crusaders took the city from muslims they slaughtered more than 70,000 muslims in the mosque. The Qibly Masjid was made a palace, the dome of the rock was turned into a chapel and the underground chambers were turned into stable.
- The dome of the rock which was made by Umayyad Caliph Abdul Malik bin Marwan was not golden, rather the golden layer was added by the Ottoman Caliph Suleiman which became the distinctive identity of the holy city.
- Imam Ghazali wrote his famous book Ihyaa Ulum Al Din in this mosque. The place which was his room is still marked.
- The mosque was set on fire by an Australian Zionist in 1969 which destroyed the famous mimbar made by Nuruddin and the Qibly Mosque.
