The Karachi Zoo became the first Zoo in Pakistan to house White Lions in 2012 when a pair was inducted in 2012. Since then, these Beautiful and rare animals have been the main attraction of the zoo, luring thousands of people daily to the zoo to witness their breathtaking beauty.
The White Lions were imported from South Africa which is their place of origin and are famed for their beauty and elegance. They are kept in a specially made acrylic cage which gives people the opportunity to see them from very close. This is a blessing for Photographers who can take close pictures of the Lions to preserve the memory of seeing this rare beauty.
Apart from the Lions, elephants are the most popular animals for zoo-goers. Karachi Zoo was deprived of this for a long period after the death of its famous elephant “Anarkali” in 2006 but the replacements brought in 2010 have returned the happiness of children for whom an elephant ride is the best part of coming to the zoo.
The Karachi Zoo is often criticized for its poor management and care of animals but local government has assured people that it is taking steps to revive the zoo and return it to its former glory.
