The universities in Pakistan have pledged to support the rain affected higher education institutions (HEIs) of the Sindh province.
The Executive Committee of the Vice Chancellors together with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) held a meeting on Tuesday through video conferencing attended by the Executive Committee Members as well as Vice Chancellors of different universities in Sindh.
The meeting reviewed the report of HEC monitoring team on extensive damage caused by the devastating rains and it was decided that the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar would coordinate the visit of teams of experts from engineering universities to the rain damaged HEIs and provide technical support for damage assessment, rehabilitation of structure and mechanism to mitigate reoccurrence of such damage in future.
The universities pledged to raise funds from their employees and students to support the faculty and students affected by rains in Sindh. HEC has already established an account where all donations will be credited and one-day salary of HEC employees will also be contributed.
Engr. Imtiaz Gillani, Chairman of the Executive Committee of VCs said, “In previous years, in our times of need universities in Sindh were in the forefront in providing us support and we will not forget our brethren in their time of need.”
