In Southern Punjab two men were caught and prosecuted by courts for selling crocodile meat in Kabirwala Tehsil of Khanewal District. This incident happened just few days after few people were arrested while hunting tortoise to sell their meat to Chinese citizens.
Muhammad Akram & Mazhar were fined Rs 10,000 and were sentenced for trying to sell crocodile meat. They were arrested by the Wildlife Department of Punjab province.
In China crocodile is meat consumed which people believe to be nutritious and beneficial for health. Tortoise meat is also widely consumed among Chinese people and it is believed that these two culprits were carrying crocodile meat for Chinese Nationals.
Government will have to be more cautious after China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) because more Chinese nationals are travelling to Pakistan than before which will increase the demand for tortoise, turtle and pork meat.
